This exhibit snaked through the rooms of the Tornielli building, including a sequence of pieces inspired by the theme of love. Each piece was created by a living contemporary artist, but each with very different linguistic and poetic character; for example, you could have seen Michelangelo Pistoletto’s series ‘Oggetti in meno (Fewer objects)’ with the inscription TI AMO.

Nicole Gravier’s photo-novels, or rather her series of photographs in which she plays out the stereotypical roles of the enamored female waiting on her lover, sometimes portray relationships using subtle scenes and other times in a more openly critical way. The display also included period love postcards from which William Xerra has cut out the male figure and inscribed, “IO MENTO (I LIE)” over the blank space. Meri Gorni created a piece of artwork made up of a diverse range of one-sided love letters (from young girls). Fausta Squatriti displayed a box containing a series of letters and postcards from a correspondence between two long-distance lovers who focused on the beauty of art and the world. Giancarlo reimagined a locket, the typical pledge of love, by placing one of Paola Mattioli’s photos that portrays the immensity of the night sky inside. Marza Migliora included a pair of gloves covered with thorns. Ottonella Mocellin and Nicola Pellegrini’s video shows a dialogue between Salome and the Baptist, whose head she holds on a plate. Luigi Billi enlarged some message slips that came wrapped in Baci Perugina chocolates with their famous, slightly crumpled phrases hanging from the walls. Sabrina Mezzaqui performed for a video documentation, or rather gave a live performance, in which she handed out some Baci Perugina chocolates to the audience.
